The Carolingian Sword for Reenactment takes inspiration from European swords of the 8th–11th centuries. With a straight double-edged blade, compact crossguard, and narrow one-handed grip, it offers a historical design suited to medieval reenactment and period equipment.

These swords belong to our reenactment line, not our buhurt line. Unlike our armored combat swords, they feature narrow grips designed for bare hands or slim reenactment gloves. Therefore, they are not suitable for use with bulky buhurt gauntlets.

Carolingian Sword Design

Carolingian swords developed from earlier Merovingian designs and became widespread across Europe during the early medieval period. They are particularly associated with the Viking Age, although similar swords appeared in Scandinavia, Western Europe, and Eastern Europe.

The traditional design combines a long, straight blade with a relatively short one-handed grip. As a result, the sword maintains the characteristic proportions of early medieval weapons.

However, the exact blade shape, crossguard, and pommel design vary between our models. Please check the photographs and specifications of your selected variation before ordering.

Designed for Reenactment, Not Buhurt

The main difference between our reenactment and buhurt swords is the grip geometry. Our Carolingian reenactment swords have narrow handles that work with bare hands or slim historical gloves.

In contrast, modern buhurt gauntlets require considerably more room around the handle and guard. Therefore, these swords are not intended for use with bulky armored combat gauntlets.

Additionally, suitability for contact reenactment depends on the rules of your event or organization. Always confirm the permitted weapon dimensions, edge requirements, and construction standards before using a sword in contact activities.
