Description
Buhurt Punch Shield for Armored Combat
Buhurt Punch Shield for Armored Combat is a compact melee shield designed around hand control and increased elbow protection. The grip sits slightly closer to the punch edge than on our other shields, so you sacrifice a little reach in exchange for better coverage of the shield arm.
TL;DR
- Size: 63 × 38 cm (24.8 × 15 in)
- Weight: 2.08 kg (4.59 lb)
- Base: two layers of 6 mm plywood, 12 mm (0.47 in) total
- Punch edge width: 16 cm (6.3 in)
- Palm straps to punch edge: 17 cm (6.7 in)
- Fabric reinforcement on both sides
- 4 mm (0.16 in) leather edge with rope reinforcement underneath
- Adjustable palm and elbow straps
- Designed to fit different gauntlets and arm protection
The shield uses two 6 mm plywood layers for a total base thickness of 12 mm (0.47 in). In addition, fabric reinforces both the front and back surfaces for better durability during regular combat use.
The edge combines 4 mm (0.16 in) leather with rope reinforcement underneath. Therefore, the perimeter has additional protection against repeated contact and wear.
The grip geometry is the main difference compared with a typical punch shield. The palm straps sit 17 cm (6.7 in) from the punch edge. As a result, more of the shield stays behind your hand to cover the elbow and forearm. You lose some forward reach, but gain protection where it matters during close melee exchanges and grappling.
Both the palm and elbow straps are adjustable. This makes it easier to set up the shield around different gauntlets, vambraces, and arm sizes while keeping the shield stable during strikes, pushes, and wrestling.
