Description

Marburg Bascinet

Museum-inspired design, reinforced for real combat. The Marburg Bascinet is based on a 14th-century visor preserved in the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte in Marburg, Germany. While the shape follows the historical original, the construction is adapted for modern armored combat, making this helmet reliable for full-contact buhurt.

Specifications of the Marburg Bascinet

  • Dome thickness: 3 mm (0.12 in) top, 2 mm (0.08 in) lower section
  • Visor thickness: 2 mm (0.08 in)
  • Material: Hardened 30HGSA steel
  • Chainmail: Steel riveted chainmail
  • Weight: 7.58 kg (16.7 lbs)

Included with the Helmet

  • Dome with securely attached visor
  • Visor locking strap
  • Foam liner with padded aventail
  • Hardened steel plates for neck protection
  • Two sets of chin straps
  • Simon strap for added stability
  • Riveted chainmail aventail

Protection and Stability

The reinforced dome is built to absorb heavy vertical and angled strikes, while the 2 mm hardened steel visor provides strong frontal protection. As a result, the helmet performs well in high-impact situations. In addition, the visor locking strap keeps the visor securely closed during grappling and close contact.

Comfort for Full-Contact Fighting

The foam liner and padded aventail help manage shock and improve comfort during long fights. Moreover, the hidden steel neck plates add critical protection without restricting movement. Because the helmet includes dual chin straps and a Simon strap, it stays stable even during intense clinches and takedowns.

  • 14th-century museum-based visor design
  • Thickened dome for heavy impact resistance
  • Secure visor locking system
  • Padded aventail with steel neck reinforcement
  • Multi-strap retention for stable fit

Helmets FAQ

Classic bascinets are one of the most versatile and widely accepted choices in armored combat. Whether it’s a clapvisor, spoletto, nasal bascinet, or bascinet with a cross, these models offer solid protection — especially around the eyes — and are compatible with most common armor kits used in tournaments.

Their design balances protection, breathability, and visibility, making them a reliable choice for both new and experienced fighters.

To ensure the helmet for armored combat fits correctly, take your measurements without any padding, using a tailor’s measuring tape.

Refer to the diagram:

  • A – Maximum head circumference measured horizontally around the widest part of the head (typically from the forehead across the back of the skull).
  • B – Vertical distance from the center of the eye level straight down to the top of the shoulder. This helps us determine the appropriate helmet length to ensure full coverage without restriction.

For the best fit, please double-check your measurements and include them in centimeters.

If there are any specific considerations — such as plans to wear additional padding, a request for reinforced vision protection (e.g., extra eye bars), or anything else that might influence the build — please mention this in the order comments during checkout. We take these details into account during production to ensure your helmet arrives ready and optimized for use.
